Living Room Color Schemes can Make A Big Difference

Living room color schemes are one of those design elements that make a big impact on the visual quality of the living room as well as your entire home. The living room in most homes is the first room that a person enters and creates the first impression in the mind of the visitor.

By careful observation you can create the right kind of color scheme for the living room. As mentioned above since the living room is the first room it is advisable to have an inviting room color scheme. Creating a combination of bright and a contrasting dark shade of colors can achieve this. The dark color helps to enhance the brightness of the primary shades.

The purpose of using a bright colored shade is very simple. Firstly the brighter shades help in even dispersion of light across all the corners of the room. This helps in removing the dark spots in the room and the room looks bigger than it actually is. If your living room is smaller in size then it becomes absolutely necessary to avoid using dark shades in larger areas because dark surface absorbs light and prevents dispersion of natural light into inner corners.

The purpose of using a dark shade is important as a contrasting shade. This is because of simple fact that in relation to this dark shade the brighter shade will gain more importance. The dark shade can be used in subtle areas for creating focal points. For example you can use a smaller surface of the wall with a dark shade and use a wall decor item as filler. You can even treat this wall with spotlights to add to the beauty. If you use colored filters on these spot lights then a combination of the colored light and the rest of the lighting will definitely help in forming a dramatic atmosphere in the living room.

Thus living room color schemes are great for creating an inviting and charming mood in the living rooms. By careful planning and observation you can truly create beautiful rooms that will create intimate spaces where the whole family can relax and spend quality time together.

Efficient Wall Painting Techniques

Painting the rooms in your home can be quite the project, but don’t be afraid.

Do you look at the walls in your home and keep telling yourself that you’ll re-paint them eventually? It’s okay if you haven’t gotten around to it for the last five years, you’re busy, I get it. Everyone cringes at the thought of having to move the furniture around, covering the floors with plastic, and seriously regretting your color selection. It’s natural, but I’m here to talk you through the process.

If you have children, like I do, you walk by a certain area of your home and see their Crayola art playfully defacing your home, or perhaps your weak attempts to remedy it. Hopefully they haven’t touched the permanent markers (hopefully, if you have kids, you don’t even keep permanent markers in the house!). If you’re like some, you’ve slowly begun to accept your children’s “innocent” markings as modern art. Don’t! Trust me, get your kids a playroom and be done with it. Instead of thinking that you have to paint the entire house at one time, do it one room at a time. This won’t feel as overwhelming. If you’re like me, you’ll probably start with hardest paint project and then work your way down to the easiest one so burn out will be less of a problem.

There are many different ways to paint your walls. You can choose to do one color, faux painting, using stencils, multi-colors, etc. If you’re re-painting you want to make it look nice and last a long time. Make sure to spend a lot of time taping so it doesn’t end up looking sloppy on the ceiling or baseboards.

Ready, set, go!

When taping the room, run a putty knife along the tape to get a tight seal.
If you’re painting a larger space, it’s more convenient to have a bucket of paint instead of a paint tray so you don’t have to re-fill it as often.
Work in a “w” pattern in small three-foot sections when rolling walls as this will even out the paint as you go.
If you need to stop in the middle of a paint job, finish a whole wall and stop at a corner or you’ll end up with lap marks that will be difficult to mask.

Roll up those sleeves, put on your overalls and have fun!
